The Latest Craze: Physically Fit with Virtual Training
Working out at home just got a whole lot cooler. Sick of those YouTube videos promoting Brazilian bums in just 5-minutes? Us too. Thankfully, Peloton is shaking things up. The New York-based company sells indoor cycling bikes for the home complete with built-in screens that can live stream 10 different daily rides (and play 3,000-plus pre-recorded rides on demand). We’re not talking models and canned instruction either, these are real classes broadcasted from the company’s New York studio. Cool, right? Do note, however, the bikes and shoes cost a pretty penny (around $2,000), and $39/month for a subscription to the live-streamed classes.
One central Arkansas company on the cutting edge of virtual training too is Custom Fit by Nicki. In an effort to help clients whose biggest fitness challenge is finding the time to get into the gym, the Sheridan-based gym now offers virtual training (plans range from $50-$395). Using a mobile app powered by Trainerize, the gym’s personal trainers can build, schedule and track workouts, deliver pre-built meal plans or access professionally created meal plans, graph and analyze client progress and use app to engage with your customers.
Fitness Mythbuster
MYTH: Doing crunches and sit-ups burns belly fat.
REALITY: To burn fat, you must design a workout that includes cardio in addition to strength training. However, you can’t control where the fat you’re burning comes off of. (Source: Health.com)
MYTH: You should work out on an empty stomach.
REALITY: Some people think by forgoing food before exercise the body has to burn fat. In reality, the body will use whatever energy is available—carbs and protein first, then fat. (Source: US News & World Report)
