Almost everyone makes big promises when they make their New Year’s resolutions. Now that we’re halfway through 2016, how are you doing with your commitment to working out and eating healthy? If you’ve slacked a little on your resolutions this year, it’s not too late! You still have six months to get back on track, and we’re here to help.

Renew that gym membership

Remember when your January gift to yourself was a gym membership? You went for a week but you stopped going a few days later. You’re not the only one. Maybe you’re still paying for your gym. If so, get up and take advantage of it! Did you cancel your membership? Your gym might have rewards for coming back. If not, shop around for the best gym for you. You might find one that's a better fit.

Set new goals

We all have a tendency to overestimate our ability to commit when we make New Year’s resolutions. Don’t make the same mistake now. Think about what you really want to achieve and why. Maybe you’d like to lose 20 pounds, but is that attainable? Do you have the time and drive to work that hard? Instead, aim for a smaller goal: try to exercise 2-3 times a week or eat another serving of vegetables every day. If you set a big goal, make sure you give yourself time to achieve it!

Hold yourself accountable

Did you make your resolution with a buddy last time? Did you both promise to hold each other accountable? Probably not. It can be hard to make ourselves do things that are unpleasant or that we don’t want to do. Shift some of that burden by setting goals with a friend. Whether she’s a workout partner or just someone to check on your progress, talk to a buddy about your goals.

Don’t be discouraged

Sometimes we don’t meet our goals. That’s life. But that's not an excuse to give up on any progress you might have made. It’s definitely not an excuse to slide back to worse habits. If a goal isn’t working for you, find a new one. There are many different ways to be healthy. Find what works for you!
