Sometimes, we need to do a better job of taking care of ourselves. Unfortunately, life is busy and it can be hard to remember to do that. Here are six easy ways to take care of yourself and hopefully boost your mood.

1. Stop and Think

Take a minute or two to evaluate how you’re feeling today and think about your mood recently. Have you been feeling pretty good? A little stressed? Tired? Try to think through the negative feelings and come up with a couple of solutions.

2. Fulfill Your Needs

You need food, water and sleep. If you haven’t had enough of one of those, you’re probably not feeling very good right now. If you’re not in a place where you can take a nap, have a snack or a glass of water. You can’t be hangry if you’re not hungry!

3. Take a Walk

Maybe you’re feeling stiff or under-stimulated. You might not be able to walk around outside, but you can walk around the room you’re in or stretch your legs on the way to the bathroom. No need to run a mile, just get your blood flowing.

4. Just Listen

Take out your phone and put on your favorite band or find a new podcast. Feel the music and let it mellow you out or get invested in a great story. If you’re in a place where you can really relax, close your eyes while you listen.

5. Make Something

Crafting can be a way to focus your mind on a task and use your body constructively. You don’t need to paint the Mona Lisa – just open an adult coloring book and fill in some pretty flowers. Not a fan of coloring books? Glue together a collage or make a cool piece of abstract art to hang on your wall.

6. Say Thanks

Writing thank-you notes might seem like something you do for others, but it can make you feel good, too! By thanking someone for all they do for you, you can remind yourself of all the great things in your life. Think of it as an even better way to count your blessings.
