Calling all foodies — if you care about where your food comes from and how local food can improve your health, we have a panel for you. Join Science Cafe Little Rock for “The Science of Food” on June 28, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at 2710 Kavanaugh Blvd.

At the U.S. Pizza Co. in Hillcrest, Science Cafe Little Rock and UAMS will host this month’s discussion on food safety, organic food and locally grown food.

Panelists will include Dr. Steven Foley, a research microbiologist with the Food and Drug Administration, Jack Sundell, owner of The Root Café in Little Rock and Dr. R. Keith Bramwell, associate professor in the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Foley will speak about what the FDA looks for in food and how they protect the public. Sundell will talk about his restaurant, which uses all organic ingredients, and Bramwell will talk about raising chickens.

Science Cafe Director Linda Williams says she chose this topic because many people are getting more and more interested in health and nutrition.

“People see their health as something they have an impact on,” she says.

The panelists will each speak for about 10 minutes, which will be followed by a Q&A session concerning the importance of eating locally and organically.

Stay tuned for the next Science Cafe Little Rock nutrition-based panel, “Prequels to Good Health,” on October 25.
