Remember those old Nutrition Facts labels? The FDA has used them for 20 years, but now those labels are getting an update.

One really big change for the labels: serving size. According to the FDA, the the new serving sizes “must be based on amounts of foods and beverages that people are actually eating, not what they should be eating.”

That bottle of soda you drank during lunch? You might soon be seeing the serving size as the whole bottle instead of half of it.

The FDA is also going to start requiring food and beverage manufacturers to list any added sugars in a product. This is a new category for the Nutrition Facts labels. If you look closely at one, you’ll see that the only item previously listed involving sugar was the total sugar in a product.

You might not see the new labels for a little while, but manufacturers will begin using them by July 26, 2018.
